In the past, the physically challenged heavyweight was a little miffed that Curtis Blaydes, who will face him in this weekend’s UFC Vegas 15 main event fight, can grow and style his hair.

In a recent interview, Derrick claimed that this is the only reason he wants to fight him- plain old envy.

Health Update On Derrick Lewis; Is He Going Through Any Illness?

There is nothing wrong with Derrick Lewis’s health; the MMA athlete is healthy and fighting. Derrick Lewis always walked out with a shaved head during his UFC outings. 

Lewis was the second oldest of seven children raised by a single mother in New Orleans, Louisiana.

As a child, he struggled and frequently engaged in street fighting. Lewis and his family moved to Houston, Texas, in 1998.

In 2017, the athlete used his strength to raise a vehicle to rescue around 100 people during Hurricane Harvey’s floodwaters in Houston, Texas.

Matches And Career Of The MMA Fighter

Derrick Lewis started his MMA career in late 2009 when, on October 16, 2009, he competed in his first amateur match at LSAMMA against Jay Ross.

He was defeated by TKO (doctor stoppage). On January 30, 2010, he competed against Tim Buchanan at an American Combat Association tournament.

He triumphed by TKO. Before joining Bellator MMA in May 2010, Lewis had a 4-1 bout record after going professional in 2010.

The athlete started boxing training at 17 and was getting ready for his first amateur match when the gym abruptly closed.

Lewis was put on probation and charged with aggravated assault two weeks after receiving his high school diploma.

He broke his probation two years later while enrolled in Kilgore College on a full football scholarship. Lewis was given a five-year jail sentence but only served three and a half of them.

Lewis studied boxing under the instruction of George Foreman while working as a tow truck driver a week after being freed.

He was also exposed to mixed martial arts by a buddy. Lewis decided to concentrate on mixed martial arts after dominating his first professional match.
