On July 15, 2008, Cindy contacted 9-1-1 to report that she hadn’t seen Caylee in 31 days. Cindy said she hadn’t seen Caylee in a while after describing where she had been for the previous few weeks.

Casey made up a story to investigators, claiming that Caylee had been kidnapped by a nanny on June 9 and that she had been looking for her ever since because she was too terrified to report the kidnapping.

According to reports, an autopsy was performed on the skeleton to determine the identity. Authorities announced on December 19, 2008, that the medical examiner had determined the body to be Caylee’s.

Caylee was murdered, according to medical examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia, based on the findings of her autopsy.

Caylee Anthony’s autopsy revealed that her body parts were “intermixed with two plastic trash bags and a canvas laundry-type bag” when found in a densely wooded area.

Also, according to Dr. Jan, her body parts were dispersed throughout the area. Remains were discovered close to local fauna.

Caylee’s bones had been in a dense forest for about six months when they were discovered.

According to the autopsy report, she was found with her spinal cord and other bones connected to it a few feet away from the plastic bags. Bones, including her skull, were dispersed in various places.

Dr. Jan, who led the search for the missing woman’s remains, had roots grown over the plastic bag and bones, suggesting that she had already died. The decay of her body sparked the same rumors.

In the autopsy report for Caylee Anthony, Dr. Jan noted no signs of trauma or injuries to the bones. She also mentioned that toxicology testing was done on hair samples taken from the scene where her body was located.

The test results were analyzed to determine whether she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of her death.

So Who Killed Caylee Anthony?

Caylee’s disappearance has yet to be explained. Anthony initially told Police that she had dropped her daughter off at the home of a babysitter named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Then she said no one was there when she got to Caylee’s House.

A woman named Caylee came forward in September 2008 and told Police she had no idea where Caylee or Anthony was. It was reported that she was acquitted of all charges.

Forensic investigators allegedly found signs of decomposition and chloroform use in Anthony’s trunk. A hair found in Anthony’s car trunk had “characteristics of apparent decomposition.”

It was “microscopically similar” to strands of hair found in Caylee’s hairbrush, but the FBI lab report could not definitively say the hair belonged to Caylee.

As shown in the docuseries, Casey was wrongfully accused of murdering her daughter Caylee in 2008, but a jury ultimately acquitted her in 2011. Casey blamed George, Caylee’s abusive Father, for her daughter’s death.

The Medical Examiner Was Accused Of Doing ‘SHODDY’ Work

As stated in the autopsy report, Caylee Anthony’s clothing had also degraded in the months after her remains were placed in the woods. However, several sets of letters, which were determined to be part of the shirt she was wearing, were found largely intact. The letters, which were pink, with a “glittery appearance,” spelled out the words, “big trouble comes small.” A pair of shorts were also found at the scene, which had green, orange, and pink stripes and a pink button on the front. Authorities also found what Dr. Jan Garavaglia determined was a regular or pull-up diaper. Law enforcement officials also recovered a blanket from the scene, which the medical examiner described as “discolored and faded.” However, the design, which was printed on the front and back of the blanket, was still visible and had a picture of Winnie the Pooh, with Piglet on his back.

Although the medical examiner’s conclusion that Anthony’s cause of death was homicide, “Today” reports the inability to determine a cause of death may have contributed to the jury’s decision to find Casey Anthony not guilty. During the trial, a forensic expert testifying for the defense blamed Dr. Garavaglia for doing “shoddy” work. As reported by ABC News, Dr. Werner Spitz testified that Garavaglia’s conclusion that the duct tape was placed on Caylee’s mouth prior to her death was incorrect. Instead, Dr. Werner believes the tape was placed on the lower skull after it was decomposed.

The Medical Examiner Said There Was Not Enough Evidence To Prove Her Cause Of Death

Forensic anthropologist Dr. William Rodriguez, who worked for the U.S. Department of Defense Armed Forces Medical Examiner’s Office, also testified for the defense. As reported by ABC News, Dr. Rodriguez testified that it would be impossible to determine whether the duct tape was actually placed on the lower portion of Caylee Anthony’s face, as it may have shifted during decomposition or have been moved by animals.

In response to the criticism of her assessments, and their possible impact on the not guilty verdict, “Today” reports Dr. Garavaglia said, “My job is to determine what happened. So I feel very strongly that we could say this was a homicide — death by the hands of another. My job is not to point the finger at one person or another.”

Dr. Garavaglia explained that people expect authorities and medical examiners to find irrefutable evidence, including DNA, and a specific cause of death, while examining a victim’s remains. However, as Caylee’s remains were skeletal by the time they were discovered, and did not have any signs of trauma, there was not enough evidence to conclude a cause of death or prove who killed her. Casey Anthony was acquitted of Caylee’s murder in 2011. According to a report by People Magazine, Casey (above) is “planning to cooperate” with a planned documentary about her life.

Just What Was Casey Anthony Guilty Of?

News organizations have been enthralled with Casey Anthony for more than ten years.

She has spoken out in an on-camera interview for the first time since being cleared of all charges in the 2011 Caylee death case, including murder, manslaughter, and child abuse.

Caylee was only two years old. In the show, Anthony sticks to the same defense arguments she and her lawyers made back in the day, such as her contention that her Father, George Anthony, sexually abused her and lied to cover up Caylee’s death.

George Anthony has previously refuted both of these allegations in court.
