Kanye West has reportedly filed to legally change his name once again—this time to “Ye Ye,” prompting a wave of mockery and confusion online. The rapper previously dropped his full name in 2021, adopting “Ye” as his official moniker.

According to Page Six on June 10, West’s chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani, filed new documents listing the name “Ye Ye.” This name now appears across his businesses, including Yeezy Apparel and his music ventures.

The internet wasted no time reacting to the change. One X (formerly Twitter) user joked:

“Ye Ye?? That’s the best he could come up with? Man, I’ve named group chats better than that.”

Online reactions ridicule West’s new name

Another user quipped:

“Ye Ye sounds like a guy who auto-tunes his emails.”
Others chimed in with comments like:
“Ain’t nobody calling him that.”

Some responded with sarcasm and disinterest:

“Oh PLEASE keep us updated. This is really the ONLY news that matters in this world right now.”
“We don’t care. Stop reporting on him.”

Another user mocked the frequent changes by saying:

“At this point, @kanyewest name changes got more spin-offs than the actual albums.”

West’s name change history and former chief of staff’s stance

In 2018, Kanye began referring to himself as “Ye” before legally finalizing the change in 2021. The move was rooted in personal and philosophical reasons.

In March 2024, West’s then-chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, sent a formal letter to the music industry urging everyone to refer to the rapper solely as “Ye,” calling his birth name a “slave name.”

The letter stated:

“Ye is one of the most recognizable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes… He didn’t make this change lightly. It’s legal, permanent, and reflects who he is now.”

Yiannopoulos later stepped down from his role the same year.

Ye announces departure from @kanyewest handle

West recently tweeted his decision to stop using his @kanyewest handle in favor of launching a new account aligned with his rebranded name.

He posted:

“Ima finally stop using the Twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is.”

Shopify dispute over $4 million

In early June 2025, West claimed Shopify withheld $4 million from him, citing the company’s removal of his online store earlier this year.

He tweeted:

“Shopify is currently holding 4 million dollars of mine.”

Then cryptically added:

“Just to put it in question form. Who do you think Shopify is ran by.”

Shopify had removed Ye’s site in February after he began selling t-shirts featuring a controversial hooked-cross design.
