In his 40s, Denis Kealy perished following a single-car collision yesterday at about 2.30 pm on the R154 at Piercetown, close to Dunboyne in Co. Meath.

The Kealys are a well-known and well-liked Gaelic football family, and Denis played a vital role in the storied Dunshaughlin County SFC victories of about 20 years ago.
Yesterday, the man who died in a single-vehicle crash in county Meath received tributes.
He has been identified locally as Denis Kealy, a staunch supporter of Dunshaughlin GFC and the managing director of Keamc Construction, who is in his thirties.
The club writes: “It is with profound regret and a heavy heart that we write on the sudden and tragic demise of Denis Kealy in a post this morning on the Dunshaughlin & Royal Gaels Facebook page.

According to the club, all training and club activities are on hold. It is the second tragedy to befall the Kealy family recently; Denis’ sister Maria died in December following a brief illness.

In 2009, Denis served as the senior team’s captain. His children and wife, Charlene McAuley Kealy, are still alive.
Following the illness-related death of Maria Kealy, Denis’ sister, last December, this is the second tragedy to affect the Kealy family lately. Maria herself participated in football for the Meath Ladies.
“It is with the deepest sadness and a heavy heart that we write on the sudden and tragic loss of Denis Kealy,” Dunshaughlin and Royal Gaels said in a statement released today.

Six fatal collisions in the Louth and Meath region occurred in the previous two months. Gardai are pleading with anyone who saw the collision to come forward.
