Mukta Tilak is no more. She passed away at age 57 after succumbing to a long-term illness.
The Indian politician was serving as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Kasba Peth, Pune, after being elected in the 2019 state elections.
Mukta was a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member and was previously elected Mayor of Pune from 2017 to 2019, becoming the Party’s first member to hold the Mayor’s position.

Mukta Tilak Illness And Health Update: What Happened to Indian Politician?
Indian politician Mukta Tilak is no more. She died from Cancer at a private hospital in Pune on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
She had a long battle with Breast Cancer. She had been struggling with the illness for the last five years.
“Despite aggressive treatment, the Cancer was in an advanced stage, and the response to therapy diminished.
She passed away due to advanced Cancer,” Pune’s Galaxy Care Multispeciality Hospital said in a statement.
After being admitted to the hospital for around ten days, she breathed her last around 3:30 pm on Friday, Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, surgical oncologist and medical director of the hospital, said.
The Former Mayor of Pune was 57. She was serving as BJP MLA from the Kasba Assembly Constituency.
Her remains will be kept for paying last respects at the family home in Kesari Wada from 9 am to 11 am on Friday, December 23.
The last rites will be held at Vaikunth Crematorium after 11 am.
Although Mukta was not keeping well, she had traveled from Pune to Mumbai, about 150 kilometers away, to vote in the recent Vidhan Parishad and Rajya Sabha elections, which earned praise in political circles.
Mukta Tilak Came From A Well-Known Family
Mukta Tilak is survived by her husband, Shailesh Tilak, and two children: Kunal and Chaitrali.

She lived with her extended family at the iconic Kesari Wada. She came from a famous family; her great-grandfather-in-law was the freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak.
Mukta was proud of her great-grandfather-in-law and said she got inspiration from Lokmaya’s work, which “people here haven’t forgotten.”
Likewise, Mukta was the daughter-in-law of veteran Congressman Jayantrao Tilak, freedom movement Leader Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s grandson.
Born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, she did most of her education in Pune.
Before joining politics in 2017, Mukta told The Indian Express that despite her affinity for the BJP for a long time, she delayed formally joining the Party until Jayawant Tilak, her father-in-law, was alive.
While some family members, like her nephew Rohit Tilak, competed for Congress tickets, Mukta chose to side with the BJP.

Mayor Mukta Tilak declared assets worth Rs. 6.25 crore, reports Times of India. However, her exact net worth before her death is not attainable on the internet.
Mukta was a prominent politician of India who served as an MLA (Maharashtra Legislative Assembly) member before her death in December 2022.
She had been in the position from Kasba Peth, Pune, since 2019, after defeating Congress’ Aravind Shinde in the state election.
She was also the former Mayor of Pune (2017 to 2019), becoming the first BJP member to hold a mayoral position.
Besides, Mukta was elected as a corporator of PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) in 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017.
The Indian politician was believed to have a humble lifestyle and did not spend her money extravagantly. She was never seen wearing expensive clothes, gold jewelry, or other items.
India has lost a great personality and will always miss Mukta Tilak (1965-2022).
