A young woman 24-years-old, Maureen Gitau who has been missing for four weeks, according to police, was “likely killed.” Her family and parents mourning to her Death.
On Saturday, December 10, 24-year-old Maureen Gitau’s relatives reported her missing.
She was last seen leaving her house in South East London‘s Evelyn Street on Monday, December 5, five days earlier.
Police have now disclosed that a 54-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murdering Maureen.
They claim that Maureen and the accused man were acquainted and that they both fear that she may suffer “severe damage”.
“This arrest is a significant development in what is now being treated as a murder investigation.
“Whilst we have not located Maureen’s body we have reason to believe she has come to serious harm and has likely been killed.
“Maureen’s family have been informed and they will be supported by specialist officers.
“This news has come as a terrible shock. My thoughts, and those of my team, are with them at this very difficult time.”
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who leads the investigation, said:
Jane, Maureen’s mother, expressed her suffering earlier this month and begged for assistance in locating her daughter in time for the holiday season.
She said: “It is so hard not to have Maureen at home with us, especially at Christmas.

“Maureen is much-loved and is such an important part of our lives. We are desperate to have her back home with us.
“If anyone knows where Maureen is, let us know. Maureen – please come home to us.”
Police are requesting anyone who knew Maureen and saw her on Monday, December 5 in the Deptford neighborhood, or anyone they feel may have information to help their investigation, to phone 101 and leave a message with the reference 3230985/22.
When was Maureen Gitau last seen?
Around 8 o’clock in the evening, Maureen Gitau was last seen leaving her home on Evelyn Street. Over the next few days, her family and friends made numerous vain attempts to get in touch with her without success.
The young woman, according to a story by the UK tabloid Daily Mail, was reported missing to police on Saturday, December 10.

On Monday, December 5 at around 8 o’clock, Lewisham resident Maureen Gitau was last observed leaving her residence on Evelyn Street.
Her relatives and friends have been attempting to get in touch with her throughout the days, but their efforts have been ineffective.

There is currently no proof that Maureen has been harmed, according to Detective Sergeant Clare Espline of the Missing Person Team covering Lewisham.
