After a long-term illness, BJP Leader Laxman Jagtap, a three-time MLA from the Pune district’s Chinchwad constituency, passed away on Tuesday.
Mr. Jagtap, whose name is synonymous with Pimpri-development, Chinchwad’s is the second BJP sitting MLA to pass away after Mukta Tilak in late December 2022.
After Kasba Peth, lawmaker and former Mayor Mukta Tilak, died on December 23 last year, Jagtap is the second significant Leader and sitting MLA from Pune from the BJP to pass away in less than a fortnight.
Jagtap, well known for having a strong voter base, has been closely associated with the growth of the Pimpri-Chinchwad township.
The beginning of Laxman Jagtap’s political career was in 1986. Till 2002, he worked as a corporator. He served as the Standing Committee’s chairman during this time.
Laxman Jagtap Illness Before Death
Laxman Jagtap, a Bharat Janata Party lawmaker from Chinchwad, passed away on Tuesday after a protracted illness.
Jagtap also received treatment abroad, which helped to improve his condition, but he has been enduring new problems for the past five to six months. He continued to get worse despite receiving treatment, according to ABP Majha.

The crucial Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad (State Legislative Council) byelections took place just before Eknath Shinde’s uprising and the overthrow of the MVA government, which resulted in the formation of the new Shinde-Fadnavis government. Despite his ill health, Jagtap had shown up in Mumbai wearing a PPE kit to cast his vote for BJP candidates.

How Did Laxman Jagtap Die?
At age 59, the three-term MLA from Chinchwad passed away after a battle with Cancer. He was receiving treatment at Jupiter Hospital in Pune. Jagtap’s mortal remains will be kept at his home today from 3 to 6 pm, after which he will be cremated at 7 pm.

Sources claim that Jagtap, who had been battling Cancer for some time, had overcome the illness only to relapse recently. He passed away in a medical facility in the Baner district of Pune.
CM Eknath Shinde expressed sympathy by stating that the BJP had lost a devoted supporter and a capable Leader with his passing. BJP MLA from Kothrud and Pune Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil described Jagtap as a genuine people’s Leader who fought for the issues of regular citizens in his district.

Ajit Pawar, the leader of the opposition, expressed his sorrow over the passing of his former close friend and colleague and noted that Jagtap had devoted himself wholeheartedly to the causes of others.

The political career of Laxman Jagtap began in 1986. Till 2002, he worked as a corporator. He served as the Standing Committee’s chairman during this time.
He left the NCP in 2004 and ran as an Independent, winning the Legislative Council election. It demonstrated its political clout. He served as a Legislative Council MLA in the same year.

Laxman was chosen to serve in the Legislative Assembly as an MLA in 2009. He has served as a BJP MLA for two consecutive terms beginning in 2014, and then served as the city president of Pimpri in 2017. He also had a significant impact on the election of the BJP to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
