Career Beginnings

Little is known about Joanne’s childhood or how she came to develop her interest in acting. It is known that she enrolled in Acadia University located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada and completed her undergraduate studies there. One of her first professional acting projects was the 2002 film entitled “The Bay of Love and Sorrows”, based on the David Adams Richards novel of the same name, in which she played the role of Madonna Eveline Brassaurd. Around this time, she also had numerous television roles, mainly small guest appearances in shows such as “Mentors”, “Mutant X”, and “Tracker”. In 2003, she was cast in the film “Crime Spree” which starred Gerard Depardieu and Harvey Keitel, and during the same year, she was also given the role of Liberty “Libby” Kaufman in the series “Jeremiah”, appearing in eight episodes; the show is a post apocalypse series starring Luke Perry, and takes place in the future when most of the population has been wiped out by a deadly virus.

Career Prominence

The following year, Kelly appeared in the film “Going the Distance”, a teen comedy that was later released in America under the name “National Lampoon’s Going the Distance”. Other projects she had during this time include guest roles in “The Newsroom and “The Catch”, and she also appeared in a few television films, including “Whiskey Echo” and “Selling Innocence”. In 2005, she was cast in the series “Slings & Arrows”, which is set in a fictional Shakespearean festival similar to the Stratford Festival.

The SyFy show borrowed concepts from various other popular franchises, such as “Friday the 13th”, “The X-Files”, “Indiana Jones”, and “Moonlighting”, and follows Myka Bering and Pete Lattimer who are assigned to the secretive Warehouse 13 for supernatural artifacts.
