Paul Gust Vallas is a former leader in the education system and a politician from the Democratic Party in America. He has held important positions in several school districts and worked as a budget director in Chicago.
Vallas is running for mayor of the City of Chicago in 2023 and finished first in the initial round of voting. Since no one got more than half the votes, he will compete in a second round of voting against the second-place finisher, Brandon Johnson, on April 4th. Paul Vallas Grew up in Chicago with his Family
Paul Vallas is 69 years old. He was born on June 10, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Vallas’ grandparents were from Greece and he grew up in Chicago’s South Side in the Roseland neighborhood. Later, he lived in Palos Heights during his teenage years.

He graduated from Carl Sandburg High School and went on to study at Moraine Valley Community College and Western Illinois University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science, a master’s degree in political science, and a teaching certificate.

Vallas worked as the leader of the Illinois Economic and Fiscal Commission from 1985 to 1990. He then became the budget director for the City of Chicago under Mayor Richard M. Daley from 1990 to 1993.

Paul Vallas is married to his wife Sharon and they have three children together named Gus Vallas, Mark Vallas, and Paul Jr. Vallas. They are a happy family.

Paul Vallas’s elder son, Paul Vallas Jr. is a police officer
Paul Vallas and Sharon Vallas have a son named Paul Vallas Jr. who works as a police officer. He is a tactical officer who risks his life to perform his job. Paul Vallas is sad about his son’s injuries while on duty.

Paul and Sharon Vallas’s son, Mark is no more with us.
In February 2019, Paul and Sharon Vallas lost their son Mark Vallas due to opioid addiction. Mark died at the age of 24 while staying at a rehab facility in California. The Vallas family was devastated by the sudden loss of their son.

According to Paul, Mark had an enlarged heart due to his long-term addiction since high school, which caused him to stop breathing. In 2022, Gus Vallas, who is the son of Paul Vallas, was accused of shooting someone in Texas and was charged with assault. There needs to be an investigation into what happened.
Gus was one of three officers who shot Kevin Donel Jonson Jr. with nine bullets because they were worried he had a gun. Jonson was found guilty of a weapons crime and violating his parole at the same time.

After the shooting, Paul’s wife told him to stop complaining because nobody cared about him before. Paul said he has thick skin and can handle most situations, but he doesn’t want his son to be involved in any controversy. Gus was back on duty after being cleared of any wrongdoing, along with the other two officers involved in the shooting of Jonson.
The Sole White, Non-Hispanic Candidate on the Ballot for the 2023 Mayoral Election
Vallas is the only white and non-Hispanic person who is running for mayor in the 2023 election. Out of the other candidates, seven are black and one is Latino. Edward Robert McClelland from Chicago magazine said that since Vallas is the only white candidate. He does not have to compete for the same votes as other white candidates like in the 2019 election.
McClelland also thinks that Vallas is running to support the police. Justin Kaufman from Axios believes that Vallas is trying to get the votes of police officers and firefighters. Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) lodge, which is the police union, has endorsed Vallas.
