In response to the controversy, Castleford Tigers imposed a “significant fine” on Joe and ordered him to work with young people to educate them about the dangers of drinking and social media when in the public eye. The club also released a statement indicating that they would be providing support to Joe and his family throughout this difficult time.
‘The Club and its Welfare Officers, in conjunction with Rugby League Cares, will continue to support Joe and his family throughout this difficult time and will make no further comment.’
Castleford Tigers said:
While Joe issued a groveling public apology through the club, stating that he needed to work on his decision-making around alcohol.
‘Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions.
‘I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my teammates.
‘I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.’
He made a apology through the club, which read:

Joe Westerman is a professional rugby league player who has made a name in the sport over the years. Born on October 7th, 1988, in Hull, England, Joe began his rugby career playing for his hometown club Hull FC.
Joe played for Hull FC from 2007 to 2011. Where he won the Challenge Cup in 2008 and 2010, as well as the League Leaders’ Shield in 2010. He made his debut for the club at the age of 18 in 2007 and played a crucial role in the team’s success.
