The confusion arose because Laura shared her name with a founding member of the band “The Chicks (formerly known as Dixie Chicks),” who tragically passed away in a car accident in Texas at the age of 65.
This unfortunate mix-up led to several news outlets, including Fox News and The Daily Beast, mistakenly using the CBC journalist’s image in the musician’s obituaries.
The CBC became aware of this unauthorized use of their journalist’s image early on Sunday morning.
The company has since been urging various publications to remove the image and issue corrections.
The situation escalated when an individual on a social media platform, referred to as X, mistakenly eulogized the journalist, leading to Lynch issuing a correction.
She expressed her main concern to CBC, stating, “The main reaction I’m having to it is how it could be seen as disrespectful to her family.”

“This just has the potential to compound their grief, so I feel terrible about that,” she added.

To clarify, Laura Lynch, the journalist, has not been involved in any car accidents.
The individual who tragically died in a car accident was Laura Lynch, the musician and former member of the band “The Chicks.”
The late musician co-founded the popular country band in 1989 and sadly passed away in a head-on vehicle collision on a highway outside of El Paso, Texas.
The shocking news was confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The former singer left the band in 1995.
The Chicks released a statement following her sudden death, describing her as a “bright light” who was “instrumental” to the group’s early success.
As stated above, the confusion arose when a photo of Laura Lynch, the journalist, attending a 2019 media gala in California was shared widely.
CBC reported that this image was initially available for purchase on Getty Images, a stock photo site, without a clear caption indicating her profession or workplace.
The site has since updated the caption of her image to include the word “journalist.”
Laura Lynch, the journalist, commented on the incident, emphasizing the importance of fact-checking in the fast-paced world of news.
The respected media personality said, “People are rushing to get things done but we’re still supposed to check the facts. “Photos are powerful,” she added.
