Matthews faced a disorderly conduct charge from an incident in May 2019 in his hometown of Scottsdale, Ariz.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, a female at a condominium complex said Matthews was among a group of men who allegedly tried to enter her locked vehicle early on May 26.
She mentioned she was a guard at the place and tried to ignore the guys and focus on what she was doing.
But they thought it was funny, and Mattews dropped his pants and grabbed his buttocks but was still wearing underwear, Police reported.
Additionally, the guard mentioned that one of his friends asked her not to inform the building management about the accident, and they were just having fun.
The friend who asked her not to inform anyone came at 2:30 pm when she was working, as per Police report.
The disorderly conduct charge against Mattews was dismissed, and after that, he apologized, saying it was an inappropriate manner and that he would not repeat it.
The player said, “I regret any of my actions that would ever disturb the team or distress any individual. I take great pride in preparing myself for the season and representing the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as I can.”

After that, he has not been arrested or charged for anything illegal work, and he signed a five-year contract worth $11.6 million in February after the incident.
