Anjem Choudary was born to Muslim parents from Pakistan.

His parents, who were Punjabi Muslims who moved from East Punjab to what became Pakistan during the Partition of India in 1947, were market traders.

He was a student at Woolwich’s Mulgrave Primary School. Choudary married Rubana Akhtar, who had just joined the al-Muhajiroun organization he was heading in 1996.
