A man has been found dead and a woman seriously injured at a home north of Brisbane.

Police said the pair, both in their 70s, were found with serious head injuries at a Burpengary East home during a welfare check at 9.20am.

The man was declared dead at the scene and the woman was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

A 26-year-old man from Boondall has been taken into custody and a homicide investigation has been launched.

“Police do not believe there is any threat to the public,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
