Young man on scooter fatally struck by MTA bus in Queens

A young man was run over and killed by an MTA bus after allegedly running a red light on a stand-up scooter in Queens Monday night, police said.

The victim was riding the scooter westbound on 89th Avenue in Jamaica when he appeared to have crossed an intersection at 168th Street against the traffic light just after 10:30 p.m., police said.

The MTA bus was traveling northbound on 168th Street and struck the scooter driver in the intersection, according to cops.

The man, who police believe could be in his early 20s, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The bus driver remained on the scene and was not harmed.

No passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the collision.
