‘Yellowstone’ Studio President “Confident” Kevin Costner Will Continue With Show

On Saturday at PaleyFest in Los Angeles, MTV Entertainment Studios President of Scripted, Keith Cox, said that he’s “confident” Yellowstone star Kevin Costner will continue with the show.

Costner as well as the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan and some of the rest of the leading cast were slated to appear at PaleyFest but dropped out last minute due to a “scheduling conflict.” The event’s website still showed all the stars and EPs earlier in the day.

In addition to Costner and Sheridan, the original lineup was to include Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Gil Birmingham and Jacki Weaver as well as executive producer David Glasser and “additional guests to be announced.” Instead the audience got Cox along with Mo Brings Plenty, Dawn Olivieri, Josh Lucas and Wendy Moniz.

While the audience was shocked at the surprise lineup change, they applauded Cox’s answer regarding the status of talks with Costner. It was reported in February that Sheridan and Paramount were working on a new direction for Yellowstone that could potentially see Costner being replaced by Matthew McConaughey. Costner’s film schedule was said to be the source of the dilemma.

According to Deadline, Cox referred to Costner as “our star, the face of our show, and the executive producer” during the panel discussion before saying “we are very confident he will continue with the show.”

Cox also revealed that an announcement regarding when production will resume is coming “soon” and that the coming episodes, “will be phenomenal. I am confident.”

Costner secured a Golden Globe for his portrayal of John Dutton in January but didn’t attend the ceremony due to the severe weather. When the actor’s trophy arrived in the mail weeks later, he recorded a video for Instagram that didn’t acknowledge the show or anyone on the production team.
