Yankees’ season on the brink after lifeless effort in Game 3 of World Series

The crowd showed up — the Yankees bats didn’t.

The pumped-up fans in The Bronx grew slowly deflated as the innings dripped on in the Dodgers’ 4-2 victory over the Yankees to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the World Series.

The Yankees wasted multiple opportunities — including Giancarlo Stanton getting thrown at home to end the fourth inning — as they saw their season pushed to the brink.

Aaron Judge — greeted by cheers and MVP chants — continued his miserable World Series debut by going 0-for-3 with one strikeout, while reaching on a walk in the eighth inning.

The Dodgers jumped on Clarke Schmidt in the first inning with a two-run homer by Freddie Freeman and tacked on runs in the third and sixth on RBI singles by Mookie Betts and Enrique Hernandez respectively.

Walker Buehler threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. The Dodgers’ rotation, thought to be a weakness before the World Series, has thoroughly dominated the Yankees in the first three games.

The Yankees’ only runs came on a two-run homer by Alex Verdugo with two outs in the ninth inning.

The Yankees will try and keep their season alive on Tuesday night with Luis Gil on the mound as the Dodgers turn to a bullpen game.
