Yankees lose trade option with Bryan Reynolds’ $106 million Pirates contract

Bryan Reynolds and the Pirates have finally agreed on a new contract, thus taking a potential Yankees trade option for this summer off the board.

Reynolds is getting a new $106.75 million contract through 2030 with a team option for 2031, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported.

The Pirates, who have won seven straight and are off to a stunning 16-7 start that is tops in the National League and second in MLB, have been trying to lock in the 28-year-old outfielder for some time.

Despite an offseason trade request, the Pirates finally got the deal over the finish line Tuesday, handing out the largest contract in franchise history.

There is no opt out in the deal, but Reynolds did get a six-team no-trade list.

Reynolds is slashing .294/.319/.553 with five home runs and 18 RBIs in 94 plate appearances so far this season.

He was an All-Star in 2021 when he hit .302 with a .912 OPS, 24 home runs and 90 RBIs.

Reynolds hit .262 with an .807 OPS, 27 home runs and 62 RBIs last season.

Heyman reported in the offseason the Pirates wanted a massive return for Reynolds, similar to what the Nationals got from the Padres in the Juan Soto trade.

The deal removes what would have been an intriguing trade option for the Yankees, whose outfield has been in flux with injuries to Giancarlo Stanton and Harrison Bader, a slow start for Oswaldo Cabrera, a brutal one for Aaron Hicks and a cooling-off for Franchy Cordero.

Hicks, 33, is hitting just .107 with a .301 OPS in 31 plate appearances this season, while the 24-year-old Cabrera is hitting .211 with a .526 OPS in 74 plate appearances.

Cordero, the 28-year-old the Yankees signed on the eve of Opening Day, had four homers and 11 RBIs over his first seven games but is 1-for-21 in his eight appearances since.

Stanton suffered yet another injury earlier this month, a hamstring strain that could keep him sidelined until June.
