Yankees’ Harrison Bader back on injured list with hamstring strain

SEATTLE – After 26 impactful games, Harrison Bader is headed back to the injured list.

The center fielder landed on the IL Tuesday with a right hamstring strain that he suffered in Monday’s win over the Mariners at T-Mobile Park.

The Yankees recalled Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Bader’s spot on the roster.

Bader underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury, which Aaron Boone was still waiting on when he met with reporters about two hours before first pitch.

But about an hour later, the Yankees announced the roster move to make Cordero active.

The injury occurred while Bader was legging out an infield single in the top of the third inning Monday.

He tried to stretch it out while standing on first base, but that caught the attention of manager Aaron Boone and a trainer, who came out for a quick conversation before pulling Bader from the game.

After missing the first 30 games of the season with a strained oblique, Bader had returned to serve as a spark plug, hitting .267 with a .806 OPS, six steals and terrific defense in center field.

Greg Allen started in center on Tuesday, though Aaron Judge and Isiah Kiner-Falefa could also see time there while Bader is out.
