Yankees’ current situation may be unsustainable

Heading into Monday night’s game against the Royals, the Yankees’ team OPS-plus stood at 141, which is not only easily the best in baseball, but equals the career marks of Hall of Famers Chipper Jones, David Ortiz and Larry Walker.

Pretty good, huh?

“That’s our OPS [plus]? Wow,” surprise star Ben Rice said. “I think we’re doing well. I didn’t know it was that high.”

The perception outside the Yankees clubhouse, where already high expectations are fueled by incessant talk radio complaints, is that the offense is up and down, both good days and bad. But the reality is, it’s been excellent overall, and that’s in mostly unlivable cold and with the magic of the torpedo bat wearing off.
