LOS ANGELES — Aaron Judge’s latest defensive gem came at a cost.
The reigning AL MVP was out of Sunday’s lineup against the Dodgers with a sore right foot after he banged it against the concrete at the bottom of the right-field fence while making a spectacular running catch in the Yankees’ win on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.
Judge appears to have avoided any serious upper-body injuries despite slamming his shoulder into the chain-link portion of the fence, which provided some give, but his foot was not as fortunate.
“He was pretty sore [Saturday] night and this morning,” manager Aaron Boone said Sunday. “Although he seemed a little bit better this afternoon moving around, so we’ll see what we have today and obviously the off day [Monday]. See what we got when we get back [to New York].

Asked if there was any concern that Judge could need a stint on the injured list, Boone said he did not know.
“Not at this point, but we’ll see how he is today, [Monday], the next day,” Boone said.
Judge was receiving treatment on the foot as of Sunday afternoon, but Boone was not sure whether he would be available off the bench for the rubber match against the Dodgers.

The Yankees captain may get X-rays or further testing when the team returns to New York on Monday.
Judge insisted on Saturday night in his postgame session with reporters that he was “feeling fine,” but he may not have let on just how hard his foot banged into the cement.
“That’s Judgey,” Boone said. “He always feels like he’s fine even when he is banged up. Again, we’ll see how the next couple days unfold.”
Gerrit Cole had mentioned Saturday night that the concrete ledge at the footing of the wall was “kind of dangerous.”
Boone was asked on Sunday whether that was something the Yankees would talk to the Dodgers or MLB about.

“Hopefully that is something that they look into,” Boone said. “I think all these places try to do their best to make things as safe as possible. But to me, it seems like that cement at the bottom could be padded up a little bit. Hopefully it is something they at least look into and consider, which I’m sure they will.”
