Two men have died while another man is in hospital after a horror shooting, described by police as ‘nothing short of tragic’.

The attack by a large group of people in three cars occurred at a property in Carmichael Drive in Wyndham Vale in Melbourne’s south west on Saturday.

Initial reports suggested the three victims had been stabbed.

The two men who died are yet to be identified while the other man was rushed to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Detective Inspector Chris Murray said on Saturday there was a confrontation in a garage of a home after three vehicles entered the street at 2.30am. 

He said the two young men who died were inside their home ‘minding their own business’ when they were targeted. 

Detective Inspector Murray said those involved may have known each other and he believed it was not a random attack.

He urged witnesses who saw or caught on dash cam the cars in convoy acting suspiciously to contact police.
