As customers walk down the fresh produce aisles, Woolworths Scan&Go stores will have a digital scale where loose fruit and vegetables can be weighed and the exact price shown.
It will be available at Woolworths Crows Nest, Double Bay, Metro Park Sydney and Norwest initially.
The technology replaces analogue scales and is an upgrade to the existing 300 AI scales available Australia-wide, both of which simply show the weight of loose fruit and vegetables.
Now, customers can check the price of a watermelon in the fresh produce aisle and prevent any surprises when they weigh it at the check out.
Woolworths Head of Business Solutions Sailesh Shankar said the new technology aims to help customers at the hip pocket as cost of living pressures spike.
“As we continue our rollout of digital scales throughout the fresh produce area of some stores, we’re ready to take the next step,” he said.

“We understand customers are looking to work within their budgets, and hoping this solution can make it easier for them to do so.”
Tiliter, the company behind the technology, CEO Marcel Herz said the scales are not only convenient but also helps customers keep on top of their budget.
“Australian shoppers now have the opportunity to track their spend across fresh produce while they shop, making it easier for them to cross-reference the price with their budget,” he said.
It is not clear whether the technology will be rolled out at all Woolworths stores nationwide.
