Wool makes me itchy — this is my secret source for super-soft sweaters

Life’s too short to wear itchy knits. Elana Fishman

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had wildly sensitive skin.

Growing up, I’d refuse to wear any clothing with tags or labels stitched inside; more than once, I grabbed the kitchen scissors and cut them out myself, leaving holes in the collars of my tees and tops. And to this day, I avoid wool sweaters like the plague; even cashmere and merino wool typically leave me itchy and irritated.

The upside of this predicament? I’ve singled out the absolute best sources for stylish, soft knitwear made from fabrics that picky skin like mine can tolerate, such as cotton, acrylic and polyester. (The latter two sometimes get a bad rap, I know — but I find them so much more comfortable than many natural fibers!)

And Bloomingdale’s exclusive AQUA brand offers great options for those of us easily felled by itchy knits. Whether you’re after a classic cable knit, a preppy polo sweater or something colorful and statement-making, you’re sure to find a sweater that suits.

Below, a few of my current favorites ideal for early-spring transitional weather.

AQUA Lace Up Stripe Polo Sweater
Bloomingdale’s

I love the nautical feel of this lace-up look, and the stripes are totally classic.

AQUA Whipstitch Crewneck Sweater
Bloomingdale’s

I already own three (yes, three) powder blue sweaters, but am so tempted to add this whipstitched crewneck to my cart.

AQUA Cotton Knit Hoodie
Bloomingdale’s

Style this with jeans and ankle boots while it’s still a bit chilly outside, and with shorts and sandals for a breezy evening by the beach come summer.

AQUA Faux Pearl Embellished Cardigan
Bloomingdale’s

So lovely and ladylike!

You can’t beat the preppy sophistication of a polo sweater.
