The wombat was spotted by a local resident while fishing over the weekend on Lake Mulwala near Yarrawonga.
The shelter said via social media, that the wombat appeared to be weak and cold before the rescue.
“After a quick chat with (the local resident), we headed out and sure enough as we got closer to the spot you could see the poor, cold, scared wombat, stranded,” Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter said.
“From a safe distance, we made a plan, with all our equipment ready, we headed in.

“The wombat was so weak from its experience, it didn’t put up a fight, it was happy to be bagged and pulled aboard the boat.”
Despite some minor wounds, wildlife rescuers are hopeful to release the wombat in the near future.
The echidna was escorted to land via a wakeboard safely.
