Emergency services were called to a unit in Merrylands about 11.30pm after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman, NSW Police said.

When officers from Cumberland Police Area Command arrived, they found the body of a woman.

She is yet to be formally identified.

A 38-year-old man was spoken to at the scene and taken to Granville Police Station to assist with inquiries.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the woman’s death has been launched.

A 61-year-old man appeared in court today charged with murder.
