Authorities have found a woman’s body three days after she fell down a lift shaft at an airport in Indonesia.

Aisiah Sinta Dewi, 38, became stuck in the lift at Kualanamu Airport in Medan on April 24.

CCTV showed after the lift stalled between floors, she forced the doors open to get out.

After opening the door, Dewi fell down the lift shaft to her death.

The lift had doors on both sides, and she went out the wrong way.

Before trying to get out by herself, Dewi called her niece to let her know she was stuck.

Despite this, it was not until a foul stench was detected days later that her body was found.

“This is an international-level airport. How are safety standards like this?” her brother said.

“The response from the staff was very, very unsatisfactory.”

Kualanamu Airport is the fifth busiest airport in Indonesia, located in the north of the island of Sumatra.

It does not fly directly to Australia.
