A woman is in a serious condition after being allegedly run over in Victoria.

Police say the woman, 36, was in an altercation with a man she knew before he allegedly hit her with his car at the corner of Barkley Street and Fawkner Street in St Kilda, at 2.30am on Friday.

The 45-year-old driver was arrested later last night in Armadale by the Family Violence Investigation Unit.

He has been charged with several offences, including conduct endangering life, driving in a dangerous manner and driving whilst suspended.

He was also issued with other traffic-related offences.

The woman remains in the hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
