A Victorian woman who survived years of abuse at the hands of her ex-partner has told 9News she has been left in the dark as to whether the perpetrator will be deported.

Nadine Hams was assaulted when she was heavily pregnant with their son stalked and threatened by Terry Phillips.

He is due for release in October after serving nine months and 21 days for abusing Hams, her young children and another ex-girlfriend.

Travelling from Gippsland to the Melbourne Magistrates Court, the mother of four was hoping for answers as to whether her ex-partner will be deported.

“While he was actually locked up for nine months, you know I could live and relax,” Hams said.

“But now it’s leading up to it, I’m getting the anxiety and nightmares again.”

9News understands the British national does fit the criteria to be booted out of the country but due to privacy reasons, victims aren’t told if and when it will happen.

“I’ve tried every avenue. Everything’s just secret,” Hmas said.

The Department of Home Affairs said for privacy reasons it cannot comment on individual cases.

Phillips was listed for an enforcement hearing today, where more than $1000 of unpaid fines was converted to prison time, some of those infringements dating back to 2005.

While the past is catching up with Phillips, Hmas hopes he won’t be in the country in the future.

“It would be a dream come true,” she said.

“So you can live your life and, you know, relax, like, not have to look over your shoulder and fear that you might bump into them.”
