A woman has died after the car she was driving collided with a cattle truck in northern New South Wales yesterday.

The woman, 51, crashed into the cattle truck on the Newell Highway, about 20km northeast of Moree, at 1.45pm on Friday.

The woman died at the scene and is yet to be identified.

The impact also killed eleven cattle, with 96 in the truck at the time of the crash. The remaining cows are being treated by vets.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was not injured and was taken to Moree District Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police are investigating the crash, and are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours following the crash, it has since reopened.
