Emergency services were called to Aarons Pass, south of Mudgee, about 2pm yesterday, after a ute travelling southbound collided with a SUV in the northbound lane.
They found six people with injuries.
A 32-year-old woman was found in the front passenger’s seat of the SUV with critical injuries.
She was taken to hospital and later died.
The driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger in the ute, a 68-year-old man, suffered serious injuries.
They were airlifted to Westmead Hospital.
A two-year-old girl and a six-year-old girl, who were riding in the backseat of the SUV were taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Police said both girls are in stable condition.
The driver of the ute, aged 54, was taken to Mudgee Hospital with minor injuries and for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and investigations are now under way into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
