A woman has died and a man has taken to hospital after an incident in south Melbourne this evening.
Residents in the Church and Dow Street heard multiple bangs at about 5pm today.
The woman was shot dead by police, with the homicide squad now on the scene.
It’s understood a police officer was also injured during the incidentm when he was pinned between a car and a wall. It’s believed he’s not seriously injured.
“There were a few bangs, not quite sure what they were, but my wife thought they were gunshots,” local resident Alan told 9News.
He said after the “loud bangs then the police arrived en masse”.
The area’s been cordoned off by police and people are being urged to avoid the area.
