The Hyundai i30 was left teetering from a carport at the Daw Park apartment block, in the city’s inner south, with residents woken by a bang about 3.20am Wednesday.
The apartment block has been damaged and residents were told to find alternative accommodation while water and power is restored to the building in Daw Park in the city’s inner south.
Witnesses said the car barely missed two girls in another car when it crossed the intersection at Goodwood Road and Doncaster Avenue.
They stopped to help along with others who heard the chaos.
“We didn’t hear any acceleration, we didn’t hear them speeding up or tyres screeching or anything like that but did hear the explosions,” a witness told 9News.
Goodwood Road peak hour commuters were diverted as emergency responders worked to safely remove the car.
As the clean-up continues to allow residents to return home, an investigation is underway to determine what led to the crash.
The driver’s death is the 60th on South Australian roads so far this year, up from 38 at the same time last June.
