Police said the 26-year-old woman was held against her will by her 25-year-old boyfriend and dragged into the bathroom of the Sunnybank Hills home about 11am today.
“She is extremely traumatised, held at knifepoint for four hours,” Detective superintendent Andrew Massingham said.
Specialist police and emergency crews swarmed the Bradman Street home at Sunnybank Hills just after 11 this morning after receiving a call from a member of the public.
As police surrounded the house, homeowners Theresa and Brian Avison were forced out and unaware as to what was unfolding with their tenant in the unit downstairs.
“No words can express the stress that I’m going through,” Avison said.
The 25-year-old man was allegedly already known to them.
Specialist negotiators were on the scene on Bradman Street, which was closed between Bellrick and Peterkin Streets to all pedestrians and traffic.
Around 2.30pm, talks broke down between the man and specialist negotiators which led to police forcing their way inside.

“At about 1.45pm we had some success where the male and female were communicating through the locked door,” Massingham said.
“Unfortunately those conversations broke down.
“This was a high-risk situation that I’m very grateful to report has ended peacfeully.”
Several houses on Morden Street are also affected.
Authorities said people within the PSPA zone – including residents, employees or otherwise – must stay inside until further notice.
The 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital for observation.
The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and taken into police custody.
9News understands charges will likely be laid later this evening.
