A murder investigation has been launched after a woman's body was found floating in the Brisbane River. The woman has been identified as 49-year-old Crystal Beale (pictured)

A woman who was found floating in the Brisbane River has been identified as chilling CCTV images of her final moments are released.

The body of Crystal Beale, 49, was discovered by a member of the public at Yeronga, in the city’s south, about 5.40am on February 22.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the body was found, but she could not be revived and was declared dead a short time later.

At the time, police said initial investigations suggested Ms Beale’s death was not suspicious, but a murder probe has now been launched.

The results of a post-mortem investigation led police to believe her death is suspicious and investigations into her final hours have been launched.

Ms Beale was last seen in the inner-south suburb of West End, 5.5km south of Yeronga, on the evening of February 21, police said.

Detective Acting Inspector Rod Watts said on Wednesday that several lines of inquiry are being examined, including CCTV from the West End area.

‘We believe Crystal was near the Brisbane River at Orleigh Park, West End and on Ryan Street, West End late on Friday February 21,’ Inspector Watts said.

‘Our investigation has centered around collecting CCTV from this area and we are now making an appeal to anyone who may have been in this area between 9.30pm on Friday February 21 and 1am the following morning and has seen Crystal or any suspicious behaviour to please come forward.

‘As this is an ongoing investigation, police are limited in what details we can disclose.

‘But we are confident people saw Crystal on the night and they have information that will assist with our inquiries. We are urging anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact police.’

Police have released a CCTV image of Ms Beale at a restaurant in Sunnybank, on Brisbane’s southside, on the night she was last seen.

She was wearing a long slim fitting white dress and had a brown leather shoulder bag hanging from her right shoulder and across her body.

Ms Beale is described as Caucasian in appearance with a slim build, approximately 165cm tall, with long brown hair.
