Police established a crime scene at a property on Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash, NSW, after the discovery of a body on Saturday night

A woman has died after she was discovered seriously burned near to a car fire. 

The 43-year-old woman was found near to a pond suffering serious burns about 10.45pm on Saturday at a property near Salt Ash, New South Wales.

Emergency services responded to reports of a car fire in the area, north of Newcastle, before discovering the woman. 

Paramedics were unable to revive the 43-year-old and she was declared dead at the scene. 

Fire crews extinguished the car fire and police launched an investigation following the death. 

Officers spoke with witnesses in the area and established a crime scene which is being forensically examined. 

‘While inquiries continue, the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,’ a police spokesman said. 

Police have urged anyone with information to contact the local station or make a report via Crime Stoppers.
