A woman has faced court after allegedly targeting mailboxes of western Sydney homes while residents were on holiday for the festive season and breaking into the properties.

Police began investigating reports of break-and-enters in the Homebush area in November this year.

It is alleged that two people have targeted mailboxes of unoccupied homes on Parramatta Road in Homebush to steal mail or spare keys to access homes.

Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith urged people to check their mailboxes and remove any spare keys before going away on a holiday.

“During the Christmas and the end of year period, empty mailboxes and houses often become a target of theft,” he said.

“We remind people going on a holiday trip to make sure they lock their mailbox and house properly and empty the mailbox before leaving.

“Attaching a ‘No junk mail’ sticker on mail box could be a good option.”

Inquiries are continuing.
