A mother charged with criminal neglect after police allegedly found her 18-month-old daughter sitting in an overflowing nappy with live maggots has been granted bail.

Officers arrested the 24-year-old on July 21 after attending a home on Eyre Peninsula.

The child in her care was taken to hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police allege that when the 18-month-old’s nappy was removed, her skin had infected wounds from where the velcro had been.

Bilney will appear before the Port Augusta Magistrates Court in December.
