Emergency services were called to Darling Downs Zoo in Pilton, south of Toowoomba, about 8.23am today following reports a woman in her 50s had suffered injuries to her arm.

It is understood the woman, believed to be an employee of the zoo, was bitten by a big cat.

Queensland Ambulance confirmed the woman had suffered a “significant arm injury” following an animal bite.

She has been taken by rescue helicopter to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

In a post on Facebook, the zoo said it would be closed all day due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
