A woman in her 40s and a child were taken to The Prince Charles Hospital in stable condition with bruises and lacerations.

A third person declined to be taken to hospital.

“Our pilots and cabin crew are highly trained to manage a range of onboard events, including turbulence events but we know this would have been very unsettling and we thank customers for their cooperation,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

The seatbelt sign is believed to have been switched on five minutes before turbulence hit and passengers and crew members were directed to remain seated.

9news.com.au understands the three people who were injured were not wearing seatbelts.
