A man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found in northern New South Wales in an alleged domestic violence incident overnight.
Investigations began after a man allegedly told officers at Ballina Police Station that he had concerns for a woman he knew, at about 12.30am this morning.

Officers were at the home on Holden Lane near Cherry Street in Ballina within minutes, where they found the 64-year-old’s body.

Superintendent Scott Tanner said the pair were in a relationship and were classifying the alleged murder as domestic violence.

“The woman suffered significant head traumas,” Tanner said.

“At this stage police are still are still searching the location but they believe there were no weapons involved.”

A 66-year-old man has been charged with murder and contravening an Apprehended Violence Order.

He has been refused bail and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.

It is unclear whether the man charged is the same man who went to the police station.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.
