Multiple shoppers have described hearing a mother scream after a man ran up to her at Bondi Junction Westfield just before 4pm.
Police confirmed a man has been shot after reports of multiple stabbings at the shopping centre.
“The baby got stabbed,” the two men told 9News.
“The mum got stabbed and the mum came over with the baby and threw it at me and (I) was holding the baby,” he said.
The other witness said they were trying to compress the baby and stop the blood from coming out.
“There’s a lot of blood on the floor… I hope the baby is alright,” they said.
The brothers were shopping before the mother came out bleeding.
Another worker she and her co-workers were fearful for their lives.
She said she heard the screams from the mother and then locked herself in a storeroom with her co-workers.
“It was just so scary… I honest to god hope that mother is okay because that scream, I just can’t get it out of my head.”
Social media videos showed multiple people leaving the centre and several NSW Ambulance vehicles at the door of the centre.
A grocery shop worker at the shopping centre told 9News he was let out of the shopping centre just after 4.30pm.
“My girlfriend called me, she said that her mum works upstairs, level three and she said, ‘Look, please be careful, there’s a shooting,'” he said.
“I couldn’t hear her well, so I came outside. I just started hearing a bunch of (shots).
“My reaction was to basically put all the customers inside (and) close the door of the shop.”
