A 46-year-old man is ‘doing well’ after a shark north of Perth.

He is recovering at Joondalup Health Campus after he was bitten on the ankle while windsurfing about 3pm (6pm AEDT) on Christmas Eve.

Troy Brown was ‘foil boarding’ off Wedge Island, north of Lancelin, when it’s understood he fell off and felt something sharp on his ankle.

He managed to take himself to a local nursing post at the pie shop at Wedge, where he received initial medical attention.

The man was later taken by ambulance to Joondalup Hospital for further treatment, where he remains

The 46-year-old’s family today confirming he’s doing well, calling him a very lucky man.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development are still working with local authorities to to identify the species of shark.
