It’s going to be a Netflix weekend for me. I’m excited to watch Azazel Jacobs’ critically acclaimed drama His Three Daughters, finally dive into the White Lotus-esque waters of The Perfect Couple, and revisit an old favorite: Heels.
The underappreciated Starz drama about a family-owned independent wrestling promotion in a close-knit Georgia community was one of my favorite shows of 2021. Starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, the series lasted for two seasons, producing 16 episodes before finally tapping out in September 2023. And by that I mean Starz canceled it.
But who doesn’t love a good return pop?
Netflix recently acquired both seasons of Heels, adding to its growing library of wrestling content. The streamer will start airing Monday Night Raw in January 2025, Greg Whiteley’s seven-episode docuseries Wrestlers was added to the platform in September 2023, and the hotly anticipated Vince McMahon documentary premieres Wednesday, September 25.
Fans who’ve already devoured the first two seasons of Heels are wondering about a potential third season. Will there be a Season 3 of Heels on Netflix? Here’s everything we know.
Who’s In The Cast of Heels?
The series stars Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig as two brothers, Jack and Ace Spade, who are constantly at odds, on and off the mat.
The series also features a talented ensemble that includes Alison Luff, Allen Maldonado, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, James Harrison, Chris Bauer, Mike O’Malley, Robby Ramos, and Trey Tucker.
Is Heels On Netflix?
Yes! Both seasons of Heels are now streaming on Netflix.
Are CM Punk And AJ Lee On Heels?
Yes! Before CM Punk returned to AEW (and later WWE), he appeared as journeyman wrestler Ricky Rabies on Heels. April Mendez (known as AJ Lee in the WWE) portrayed Elle Dorado in the second season of the series.
Will There Be A Season 3 of Heels on Netflix?
In September 2023, Starz canceled Heels after its two-season run. Despite critical acclaim, the show never found a substantial audience, which led to the show’s cancelation despite the second season ending on a cliffhanger.
If the show were to become a Suits-like hit on Netflix, series creator Michael Waldron, showrunner Mike O’Malley, and star Stephen Amell have all emphatically stated that they’d like to continue the series, with Waldron telling Variety that Season 3 would explore the “dark side of success with the DWL breaking through to a new level.”
Personally, I’m a big fan of the show, but a Season 3 is unlikely. Many of the actors have moved on to other projects — Amell, coincidentally, is starring in Suits: L.A. — and while that doesn’t make a third season impossible, it does make it more difficult.
The new partnership between Netflix and the WWE certainly helps, but Heels would have to do crazy numbers to be given a third season. In April 2024, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that a source stated that Netflix could wind up renewing Heels if it performed well, but that the same sources cautioned that a third season would be a “logistical challenge.”
