Will There Be A Season 2 of ‘Forever’ on Netflix?

Forever has taken the world by storm.

DECIDER contributor Joel Keller encouraged everyone to STREAM IT in DECIDER’s Forever review, writing, “Forever takes its time to tell its story of first love, with all the ups and downs that teens who are discovering love and sex in the social media era have to deal with. It’s a vibe that we love, aided by the chemistry between the show’s stars.”

But don’t just take our word for it. The series boasts a 95% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and since its May 8 debut on Netflix, has been lauded as “a triumph” by RobertEbert.com, Akil’s “finest work” by Variety, and “one of TV’s all-best time romances” by Time.

Inspired by Judy Blume‘s 1975 novel of the same name, Mara Brock Akil‘s adaptation of sees Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) reunite as high schoolers at a New Year’s party after years of not seeing each other. The two embark on their own love story, as they experience a first love and all that comes with it — including teenage awkwardness.

“I think we’ve all been awko-tacos in love in the beginning of things, whether it be because we’re young or because this is a new person,” Simone shared in a chat with DECIDER. “I feel like we’ve experienced a little bit of discomfort, so it’s really just a matter of pulling that out and just being real dramatic with it.”

Cooper Jr. credited Brock Akil’s writing for nailing this relatable awkwardness, telling us, “But when I was in high school, I know I wasn’t cool and I wasn’t suave. And we see so many teenagers who are 30 years old and they are portraying these teenagers that feel grown, in a sense. And I think, you, know, Forever does a great job at presenting the youth.”

In addition to Simone and Cooper Jr., the Forever cast also features Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, Barry Shabaka Henley, Niles Fitch, Marvin L. Winans III, Adriyan Rae, and Ali Gallo.

All eight episodes of Season 1 are streaming on Netflix, but fans are left wondering whether Forever could return for a second season. Here is everything we know about the possibility of Forever Season 2.

Will there be a Season 2 of Forever?

As of now, a second season of Forever has yet to be confirmed by the streamer. However, Akil told Entertainment Weekly that “there’s absolutely room” for a Season 2.

“In this art form, I don’t make it for myself,” she continued. “I’m making it for an audience. I believe that the audience wants character-driven, complex love stories. If the audience wants more, I want more. Let’s go do it.”

During an interview with DECIDER, Simone said she “would be super down to do a Season 2.”

“I love all my characters, but Keisha I hold very near and dear to my heart because that was the first time I was a lead,” she added. “So it was the first time I ever sat with a character long enough to really just be in her world and exist in it almost every day.”

Cooper Jr. also told Us Weekly, “I think that depending on how it’s received, we may be able to come back for Season 2. “I think Mara [Brock Akil] is in the works of writing some things for Season 2.”
