Wild footage has emerged of a brawl between partygoers in the centre of one of Sydney’s most popular night spots for families.

About half a dozen people were involved in the melee along the wharf at Barangaroo moments after the weekly 9pm fireworks on Saturday.

Footage from the scene shows the men grappling with each other while a female onlooker and security guards from a nearby nightclub tried to break them apart.

One of the taller men could be seen winding up to throw large strikes before he hit air.

Others continued to grab each other by the collar resulting in the shirt of one man being ripped down the front and exposing his chest.

The brawl then spilled onto a nearby bench leaving the taller man pinned underneath another while onlookers cheered and jeered at the brawlers.

The man with the ripped shirt was spotted hitting the taller one before he pointed and yelled in his face.

He then swung wildly at another man approaching him with his arms outstretched leaving his shirt almost completely ripped off his torso.

An onlooker told Daily Mail Australia the brawl exploded along the wharf ‘so fast’.

‘One minute I was recording fireworks, next it was the brawl,’ he said.

The fireworks launched just moments before the brawl descended into chaos – the fireworks are set off every Saturday at 9pm from Cockle Bay, in Sydney Harbour.

While the city put on a massive fireworks show to ring in the New Year just days prior, the City of Sydney Council spruiks the weekly show as a top attraction.

‘Whether you’re a local Sydneysider or a tourist, what better way to end dinner or entertainment than with an incredible array of fireworks at one of Sydney’s most glorious waterfront locations,’ the council’s website reads.

‘When it comes to fun things to do in Sydney, it really doesn’t get much better than that.’

A NSW Police spokesman said there were no reports of an incident at Barangaroo.
