A group of schoolgirls tried to disarm a fellow student, allegedly armed with a knife

Confronting footage has emerged of three brave schoolgirls courageously trying to disarm a fellow student who allegedly threatened them with a knife.

Emerald State High School in central Queensland went into lockdown for two hours  on Thursday after a teenage girl allegedly produced a knife.

Footage filmed by another student showed the girl slashing the knife at several classmates as they tried to grab it from her hand.

The girls repeatedly approached the armed student in groups to increase their chances of taking the weapon.

The clip ended with staff separating the student filming from the group and calling for others watching on nearby to disperse.

Teachers were eventually able to restrain and calm the armed student. She is now with her family.

A 13-year-old girl was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Two other teens who suffered minor facial injuries and a female staff member in her 30s who suffered a head injured were treated at the scene by paramedics.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Department of Education  confirmed emergency services were called to the school to ‘assist staff to safely manage the situation’.

Classes returned as normal once the lockdown ended.

‘The department treats the safety and welfare of students and staff as its highest priority,’ the spokeswoman said.

‘Families of students directly involved were contacted immediately and have been offered support.

‘Ongoing counselling and support services are available for those who require it.’

Queensland Police confirmed officers attended the scene and allegedly seized a small knife which had been thrown to the ground during the altercation.

Investigations continue.

The latest incident comes just six months after students at the same school were locked in their classrooms after a student produced a knife in an unrelated incident.

In May 2018, police attended the state school after a student brandished a hammer during a mass brawl.

Four years earlier in 2014, 22 students were suspended in a matter of days over a spate of incidents, including a one who brought a knife to the school.
