Ah, God dang it – you have to LOVE you some California crazies. You just have to.

They just don’t ever quit the crazy.

You all probably saw most of the different snippets of President Trump’s press round table in LA, the pièce de résistance of which was his unmerciful smackdown of grinning gargoyle LA mayor Karen Bass.

Tons of people have called her bluff about being denied access to their property and/or not being able to start clearing out the debris on their homesite, free of red tape and ‘inspectors’ blessings beforehand.

It’s all hooey, and she’s the mayor of Crazy Town.

So much hooey like the LA officials’ promises about doing everything they can to make it easier for residents to find places to stay.

If you’re homeless and living in a derelict RV parked on a sidestreet or have pitched your tent on a sidewalk or the median of a freeway onramp, you’re still going to go as you always were.

If you were unfortunate enough to lose the roof over your head to the fires but lucky enough to have a boat in one of the marinas around the area that survived unscathed, well, then…

    TOO BAD FOR YOU.

Don’t even think about resting your weary head in that sucker without a permit  – the permit they won’t let you have anyway.

    Do you know why?

You might inadvertently poop in the harbor.

    And they can’t map that.

    PRIORITIES, THEY GOT ‘EM

They are also busy tracking down the scum of the earth violators like the man who returned to the site of his burned-down beach house, on what had been a ‘dog’ beach, with the dog who used to live in the home with him, because now NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE BEACH.

Man loses home on “Dog Beach” Malibu and could be sited a fine for his dog on the video evidence shown on @ktla @BillMelugin_ @VeniceIntel

In LA, bringing a dog onto a public beach is prohibited under LA County Code § 17.12.280, A person shall not bring onto a beach or in water pic.twitter.com/ck3e5GrmRn

PRIORITY ONE – NO DOGS ALLOWED

The other priority – again, nothing to do with anyone or anything on fire – was ‘Trump-proofing’ the state, which started out as a $25M wish list in the legislature. They didn’t get that – they doubled it to $50M.

The folks in Sacramento are also not letting go of a dime of it for fire relief in any fashion.

Gavin Newsom begging Trump for federal money after wasting $50M of taxpayer dollars to “Trump Proof” the state is the most California thing there can be. How about we just focus on lowering taxes, actually providing the services we voted for, & making us business-friendly again?

    — Joe Way, PhD, CTS (@JosiahWay) January 26, 2025

It also seems as if the president is going to be sticky about how he hands recovery money to the state, having the nerve to expect Newsom and his big spenders to use whatever lucre they receive ‘responsibly’ and ‘in the best interests of their citizens going forward.’

Can we all agree that @GavinNewsom is not only the worst governor in the country but also the entire universe?

They won’t be using federal dollars to finance craptastic progressive fever dreams for the next four years, at the very least.

    Man, are they pissed off.

REMINDER: There were ZERO conditions placed on aid that went to Florida or North Carolina after Hurricanes Helene and Milton. To suggest there should be for Californians is deplorable.

The new Republican-led Congress is already off to a horrible start.pic.twitter.com/Aj6ugGihNk

So what to do, what to do?

They have to get more money from somewhere; they’re not turning loose of their Trump temper tantrum fund, and it looks like baling-wire strings attached to whatever comes from Washington.

Who could CA officials possibly soak for some more cha-ching?

The LA fires are heartbreaking not only because of the scale of the devestation but because we’ve had 50 years to prevent it. The oil industry is responsible.

They denied their own science & warnings & slowed down the shift to renewables and electrification while making… pic.twitter.com/MDw13WOI0l

    — Tzeporah Berman (@Tzeporah) January 9, 2025

By George, I think she’s got it!

    Of course!

CA lawmakers are jumping on their old reliable whipping boy – mean old oil companies – like flies on three-day-old roadkill.

    Absolutely insane!! WTF @Scott_Wiener ?! https://t.co/KYCQZKGbV3

    — Houman David Hemmati, MD, PhD (@houmanhemmati) January 27, 2025

This should work out great. Rather than do anything substantive to fix the state or help those already in dire circumstances because CA legislators suck so bad they blow, that sterling representative of San Francisco values, State Senator Scott Wiener, is co-sponsoring legislation this very day to soak the oil companies yet again.

California bill would let insurers, policyholders sue Big Oil for climate disasters

State Sen. Scott Wiener has introduced a bill that would create a pathway for Californians affected by fires, floods and other climate disasters to sue fossil fuel companies for damages. The bill would also let insurers do the same to recover costs.

Senate Bill 222, introduced Monday by the San Francisco Democrat and state Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez, D-Pasadena, accuses gas and oil companies of deceiving the public about the impact of their products on climate change. Supporters argue it would provide relief from California’s home insurance crisis by explicitly allowing insurers to recoup costs from fossil fuel companies, rather than solely by raising their rates.

“Californians are paying a devastating price for the climate crisis, as escalating disasters destroy entire communities and drive insurance costs through the roof,” Wiener said in a statement. “By forcing the fossil fuel companies driving the climate crisis to pay their fair share, we can help stabilize our insurance market and make the victims of climate disasters whole.”

While a number of state officials have filed lawsuits against oil companies in recent years, it’s much rarer for non-officials to attempt the same. Erik Mebust, a spokesperson for Wiener’s office, said that SB222 would “provide a clear legal recourse for victims and insurers.”

I’m sure everyone in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and points affected are going to be grateful to this skeevy goon for all his hard work and vivid imagination as they watch the few things they might have been able to save had they been allowed onto their property wash off in the mudslide that came with this week’s rain.

    PRIORITIES

Why is Trump putting strings on every dime headed to CA?

    This is why.

    Lord, they are worthless.
