Jack McDermott has long shared with the world that he’s a gay man. His first Instagram post from 2015 is an outright celebration of Pride Week in Los Angeles. In a 2020 episode of Dean McDermott’s “Daddy Issues” podcast, Jack joked that he’d never really hidden his identity. “[My dad] said he knew I was gay when I was dancing in a tutu on our cottage deck when I was 3 … I mean, I was giving very direct hints,” he joked. As for a more official coming out, Jack shared a hilarious story about the time his friend had been caught stealing, and both of them were arrested. Jack said after Dean arrived to pick him up from the police station, he asked his dad to hold back until his friend was released before revealing the two were dating. “He took a deep breath, and he was like, ‘I respect you for telling me that and sharing that, and I’m very proud of you. … but, this isn’t getting you out of your f***ing punishment,” Jack recounted.

Before the “Daddy Issues” episode, Tori Spelling also spoke about her stepson’s coming out — and even revealed his doing so only brought them closer. In an Instagram post celebrating his 21st birthday, the actor wrote, “We found each other on a new level with a whole new respect for each other.” We stan a supportive dynamic!
