Huge crowds are expected at live viewing sites across Australia as the Socceroos face Argentina in the World Cup in the early hours of the morning.
A stunning solo goal secured Australia a 1-0 win against Denmark in the FIFA World Cup, sending the Socceroos into the knockout stage for the first time in 16 years.
States have set up live viewing areas in their cities for the next match, a round of 16 clash with tournament heavyweights Argentina, which will kick off at 6am (AEDT) on Sunday.
It comes after prime minister Anthony Albanese said Australians “might” get a public holiday if the Socceroos win the World Cup in Qatar.
“Too late to call a national holiday after the Socceroos’ huge win against Denmark last night,” he wrote on Twitter.
“But if we win the #FIFAWorldCup… that might be a different story.”

Australia will face Argentina in their round of 16 match on Sunday, December 4, at 6am AEDT (10pm Saturday local time in Doha).
Victorians will be able to watch the game live at Federation Square in Melbourne’s CBD, where the previous matches have been screened.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews also announced The Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, known as AAMI Park, will be opened to the public with the game on the big screens.

Geelong is also hosting a live viewing event at Rippleside park, which will be an alcohol-free event.
Various live-streaming events will be held across Sydney including at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour, Earlwood’s Beaman Park, Liverpool’s Macquarie Mall, Enmore Park in Marrickville and at Maroubra Beach.
The New South Wales Government will also provide free public transport Sydney-wide on December 4, from 4am to 12pm, to allow the city’s residents to get to venues easier.
The Sydney Opera House sails will also be lit up on December 3, from 8pm until dawn.
In Brisbane, you can watch it live in King George Square and Queen Street Mall, while fans in Adelaide will have a live site at Telstra Plaza at the Adelaide Oval.
Canberrans can watch it at Civic Square, outside the Canberra Theatre Centre.
Fans are encouraged to read event guidelines before attending as many will be alcohol free-events.
